Printing help

Use it after reading a farm book or a field trip. It takes about fifteen minutes. A group can sort the answers into birds, babies and big animals after solving, which turns it into a small science activity. Parents at home can add animal sounds as they go. Marking is quick with the answer key. Print the 5 versions for a table of mixed ages so they do not copy.

The list is more than a set of barnyard names. It includes the young (LAMB, KITTEN, PUPPY, CHICK) and male and female terms such as EWE, RAM, DRAKE, GANDER and BULL. Children learn that animals have special names by age and sex. Some words use tricky vowel pairs: GOOSE, DONKEY and TURKEY. Younger readers typically find COW and EWE a good opening. Stronger readers can find the pairs, like HEN and ROOSTER.

Bank plus first letters suits kindergarten and first grade. Second and third graders can use the bank. Remove hints for older students, who can instead write what each animal gives the farm. For a specific unit, such as poultry only, type CHICK, HEN, DUCK, GOOSE and TURKEY into Your own words and make a short sheet.

Does the farm scramble teach baby animal names?
Yes. LAMB, KID, CHICK, KITTEN and PUPPY are on the list. After solving, ask children to match each baby with its parent, such as LAMB with SHEEP.
What age is the farm animals sheet for?
Ages five to eight do best with hints on. The three-letter names like COW, PIG and HEN suit beginners, while STALLION and BULLOCK stretch older readers.
How do I make a poultry-only farm sheet?
Enter CHICK, HEN, DUCK, GOOSE, TURKEY and ROOSTER under Your own words. The sheet scrambles just those six, with the same hint choices and the same answer key.
