Print one per child and write the jobs in by hand, a few words each. Hang it where the child walks past every day, and tick the boxes at the same time each evening so it becomes routine. Check the week on a set day, for example Sunday dinner. Leave the name blank if you want to print one sheet and write several names. Write online lets older kids tick their own boxes on a tablet.

The chart turns a vague 'help around the house' into named jobs a child can see and finish. It teaches responsibility and the habit of checking a list. Young children do best with a few daily jobs such as making the bed, while teenagers can take weekly jobs like laundry. The usual failure is too many rows at once, which leads to a chart that gets abandoned after a week.

Six rows suit children under about eight, eight rows fit a middle schooler, and ten rows suit a teen or a shared family list. Start the week on Monday if weekend jobs should sit together at the right edge, or on Sunday if your week starts at home. Variation: leave two rows blank for jobs that change weekly.

How many chores should a child have on the chart?

Start with three or four real jobs for a young child, even though the sheet has six rows. Add more only after the first set is done without reminders for a few weeks.

Should chores be tied to allowance or rewards?

That is a family choice. Many parents separate basic jobs, which everyone does, from extra jobs that earn something. Whichever you pick, state the rule before the week starts.

What if my child keeps forgetting to tick the boxes?

Move the chart closer to where the job happens, and tick together at a fixed time for the first two weeks. Then hand over the pen and check once at the end of the week.
