1 cm Dot Grid Paper

1 cm dot grid paper places dots a full centimeter apart, wide enough for younger students and geoboard-style geometry. Shapes are easy to draw and count, so it works for early geometry, symmetry, large lettering and sketches that do not need fine detail.

Printing help

Give a child a sheet and ask them to join dots into a square, a triangle and a house, then count the sides. Teachers use it for geoboard-style tasks without the pegs, such as finding shapes with an area of 6. For symmetry, draw a line down the middle and mirror a shape on the other side. Press Write online to try it on a tablet, then clear it for the next puzzle.

With dots a centimeter apart, a child can read lengths straight off the grid and count area by adding squares between four dots. It supports early geometry: sides, corners, symmetry and simple area. Kids often connect dots at random and lose the shape, so start with a target, such as a four-sided shape with equal sides. Later they can move to 5 mm dots or graph paper for finer work.

Light dots are enough for pencil work, and Bold is helpful for small hands and for photocopies. Keep Dot spacing at 1 cm for geometry with beginners; move to 5 mm for older students who want finer detail. Landscape suits wide patterns and borders. Add the name and date header if you plan to collect the sheets.

What age is 1 cm dot paper best for?
Roughly kindergarten through grade 3, when children are learning shapes, sides and corners. The wide spacing is easy to see and join. Older students can use it for symmetry and area puzzles.
How is it different from graph paper?
There are no lines, only dots, so children decide where shapes go. That makes drawing more open ended, and it stops them from simply coloring squares. Grids can come later for coordinates.
Can I draw shapes with a given area?
Yes. Ask for a shape that encloses 4 squares, then 6, then 8. Children join dots and count the unit squares inside, which builds area ideas well before any formula.
