Fry First 100 Sight Words Worksheets

Print the pages and give the child one page per session, which takes about fifteen minutes. Say each word aloud, trace it with a finger and then a pencil, and write the final copy without looking. Spread the pack across several weeks, doing one page a week with a daily reread. Teachers can send pages home on Mondays, and parents can circle the words when they spot them in a book.

The first 100 words account for a large share of everything children read, so knowing them by sight speeds up reading. The order runs by frequency, not grade level, so easy words and harder ones are mixed. Children stumble on look-alikes such as then and them, or what and want. If your class uses Dolch, many words overlap. After this list comes the longer Fry lists.

Medium fits first and second grade. Choose Large for preschool and kindergarten, and Small once letters stay inside the guides. This pack is long, so use the page count in the panel to plan your weeks. If a child has not worked through Dolch pre-primer and primer, start there first with the Word list control. Dolch or Fry: which list should a class use?
