Dolch Primer Sight Words Worksheets

Print a few pages and give the child five or six words per sitting. Read each word first, then trace it, and write the last copy in each row from memory. Spread the 52 words over about two weeks. Teachers can use the pages as seat work after a phonics block. Parents can ask the child to use one word in a spoken sentence before writing it, which links spelling to meaning.

The primer list adds the verbs and small function words that turn single words into sentences: are, did, have, must, please and went. Most children meet them in the second half of kindergarten. For a little extra, choose a few confusing pairs and write them on one row, one after the other, so the child sees the difference.
