Run it as a warm-up before a careers discussion. Hand every child a sheet, and as each job turns up, ask what that person does all day. A 10x10 board takes about five minutes, so there is time left to talk. For a class project, have students pick a word they found and draw that worker for a bulletin board. The words move from short, familiar roles (COP, VET, COOK) through NURSE, PILOT and JUDGE to the long titles DENTIST, MECHANIC and REPORTER. Children get to read and spell job names they hear but rarely see written. The tricky ones are words that look alike in the grid, such as FARM and FARMER, or WRITER and REPORTER. A solver has to check every letter of the ending, which trains careful reading.

Easy suits first and second grade, with three- and four-letter jobs in straight lines. Medium adds diagonals for third grade and up. Hard adds backwards words and the long titles, a good stretch for fifth graders or a middle school careers class.
