Pair it with a world map or globe. After finding each country, students locate it and name its continent. Easy has 10 short names, Medium and Hard run longer. Country names are a good spelling challenge. Easy names are four letters, such as OMAN, TOGO and LAOS, and also hard to place on a map. Medium covers well-known countries like BRAZIL, JAPAN and SWEDEN. Hard has long names where students often swap letters, like AUSTRALIA or ETHIOPIA. Students who find a name quickly often cannot say where it is, so the real learning comes from pairing the search with a map. It builds familiarity with names before a geography test.

In grades 2 and 3, Easy plus a map on the table is plenty. Grades 4 and 5 can use Medium and sort every country they find by continent. Hard suits middle school or a geography club. If you teach a single region, keep My own words inside it. Hand out the answer key last, so students hunt for the final few themselves.

Can I limit it to one continent?

Yes. Switch to My own words and type up to 30 country names from that continent. Names with spaces, like New Zealand, need to be typed as one word.

Are the countries on the Easy list actually easy?

Easy is easy to scan, since the names are four letters long, but countries like CHAD or LAOS may be unfamiliar. Pair it with a map so students learn where each one is.

How do I turn it into a geography lesson?

Ask students to find each country on a map after they circle it, then write its continent next to the word. A blank world map and a pencil are all you need.
