About this page
Printing helpRun it during a plant unit or on the first warm day. Print a card for each child, read the words from the call sheet and tick each one as you say it. A 3 x 3 game lasts five minutes, which is right for a transition, and 5 x 5 about fifteen. Use dried beans, pasta pieces or small flower stickers as markers. After a round, plant something in a cup and call the matching words as you go. Print extra pages for a second game.
Three-letter words such as BUD, BEE, DEW and HOP suit early readers working on short vowels. Mid-length words like PETAL, TULIP and BREEZE bring in vowel pairs, and long ones such as SPROUTING, SEEDLINGS and GARDENING add endings like -ing and -s. Children often skip the middle of words like BLOSSOM with its double s. The theme supports a life-cycle lesson, since many words describe growing, hatching and nesting.
For kindergarten, go with 3 x 3 and one card per page, and use only the shorter words by pasting a custom list. For grades 2 and 3, 5 x 5 covers the full list. Two cards per page makes sense for a whole class where paper is limited. Turn the free center off if you want a harder game for confident readers.
- Can spring bingo go with a plant life-cycle unit?
- Yes. Words like SPROUTING, BLOOM and PETAL follow a plant's growth. Call them in order of the life cycle by pasting your own sequence, then have children retell the stages.
- Does the spring list include Easter words?
- No religious or holiday words appear on the list. EGG, CHICK and LAMBS show up only as spring animals, so the cards suit any classroom and any family without changes.
- Which spring words are good for short vowel practice?
- BUD, MUD, HOP, FLY and DEW are quick CVC-style picks. Paste just those into Your own words to build a beginner card, as long as you include at least eight.
