Short I Worksheets

Use this when short i is the target, ideally after reading a few i words together. A full page takes around fifteen minutes with a child who needs support, less for a confident one. Children add the i that is left out of each word and read it back. The answer key makes marking quick, and 5 versions gives a group different orders. Ask the child to underline the i in each finished word.

My child forgets the dot on i. Is that a problem?

It is common and small. Remind them that the dot comes last, once the word is finished. Teach it as the head on a person. Spelling and sound matter more at this stage.

Should short i come after short a?

Many programs teach a first, then i, o, e and u, but any order works. Short i is easy to hear, so it is a comfortable second vowel. Follow the order your class or curriculum uses.
