Multiplication Flashcards
These multiplication flashcards print eight cards to a page with dashed cut lines, with products from the 2 to 12 times tables. Sixteen cards by default. A fit for third and fourth graders memorizing their facts.
About this page
Printing helpCut the cards and carry them in a bag for car rides or the kitchen table. Sort into know and learning piles, and retest the learning pile twice before bed, so the hard ones get the most repeats. Print double-sided for answers on the back, or single-sided for a key. When a deck feels easy, download a new set and expect new facts, then mix old and new decks for review.
The 2, 5 and 10 tables come easily. Trouble sits in facts like 6 × 7, 7 × 8 and 8 × 9, where memory and no pattern are all there is. Commutativity halves the load: if 7 × 8 is known, 8 × 7 is too. Facts to 12 matter because they feed long multiplication, division, fractions and area. Fluency here makes later math less taxing, since the child spends attention on the new idea.
Choose 8 cards to focus on hard facts, 16 for regular practice, 24 for a weekly review. Keep the cards a child misses in a separate small pile and revisit them first. Say the whole fact aloud, seven times eight is fifty-six, so ears and eyes both help. A new download gives a different set, which is useful when a child has learned a deck by position.
- Which facts should I focus on first?
- The hard ones: 6 × 7, 6 × 8, 7 × 8, 7 × 9 and 8 × 9. Keep those in a small pile and revisit them each day, while easier facts get a lighter review.
- Does the card stock matter for daily use?
- Ordinary paper holds for a week. For a term of daily drills, 65 lb (176 gsm) card stock is sturdier. Cards are 3.75 by 2.2 inches, four rows of two, so a paper cutter does a page in five cuts.
- What if my child keeps missing the same cards?
- Pull those out into a small pile and drill them first each day, then show the fact another way: as skip counting, an array or repeated addition. Retire a card after it is right several days running.
