How do students know where the point goes?
Count the decimal places in both factors and give the product that many. The hard setting is built so the count is two (tenths times tenths), which makes the rule visible in every problem.

Why does the key drop trailing zeros?
Because 3.60 as a product of 2.4 × 1.5 is usually written 3.6 once the places have been placed. Students who leave the zero are still correct.
