Division Flashcards

Cut the cards and use them in short rounds. Flash a card such as 56 ÷ 7 and ask for the answer plus the multiplication fact behind it. Leave the misses for another day, and let the child say the multiplication fact aloud before the quotient. Print double-sided for answers on the back, or single-sided for an adult key. A fresh download brings a new deck when this one is easy.

Division facts are the inverse of multiplication facts: if 8 × 7 is 56, then 56 ÷ 7 is 8. A child with weak tables will struggle here, so drill both together. The facts have no remainders, which keeps the attention on recall. The tricky ones are those with big dividends, where guessing a quotient is harder. Confidence here carries into long division, fractions and word problems.

Choose 8 cards for a quick round, 16 for steady practice, 24 for review. Ask after each answer, what times what makes the number, so division is linked to multiplication. My child knows times tables but struggles here. Why?

Division needs the facts run backward. Ask what times 7 makes 56 instead of asking for 56 divided by 7. Practice both directions with the same fact family.

How should I run the answer pages for division?

Print double-sided and flip on the long edge so every quotient sits behind its card. If your printer cannot do that, print single-sided and keep the answer sheet to check after each round.

How are division and multiplication cards used together?

Put a multiplication card and its division partner side by side, such as 7 × 8 and 56 ÷ 7. Naming the pair out loud shows the child that one fact family holds all four problems.
