Ice cream Color by Number
Ice Cream Color by Number: a 12 by 12 grid of numbered squares that becomes an ice cream cone as the legend colors fill in. Suits parents and teachers for summer activities, party tables or a quiet math station.
Color by the number in each square.
About this page
Printing helpPrint it for a hot afternoon or a class party. Each square needs its own look at the legend, so allow twenty to thirty minutes. Afterward, cut the cone out and glue it on a paper menu for pretend play at the snack table, with prices written beside it. Use the answer key to check, or keep it back for a surprise. Color online lets a child color on a tablet.
Two zones make up the picture: round scoops above and a pointed waffle below. The switch of color between them marks where the shape turns, so children get a clear visual landmark while they hunt for numbers. When squares hold problems, one slip drops a stray color into a scoop. Younger children gain number recognition from this page, older children gain fact fluency, and everyone gets a treat-shaped reward.
Choose Numbers for beginners, Addition or Subtraction for early grades, Multiplication for older children. Color the cone first, then the scoop. Press New version to change the numbers for a second cone. For a party of five, 5 versions gives each guest a unique sheet. Make a pretend shop by displaying all the cones with prices.
- Can I use the ice cream page at a party?
- Yes. It takes about half an hour, so plan it as the main craft. Give each child a different sheet and let them cut out and decorate their cone with paper sprinkles.
- Why is there a stray color in the scoop?
- A square probably got the wrong color. Check the number against the legend. In math modes, solve the problem again, since an error changes the color of that square.
- How can I use it to teach money?
- After coloring, price each cone and ask the child to add up two cones or find change from a given amount. It turns the finished picture into a short counting task.
