Printing help

Bring them to the last week of school, a camp cabin, or a backyard barbecue. Print one card per child and keep the call sheet yourself. Read the words in order and tick each one. A 5 x 5 round lasts about ten to fifteen minutes, and a 3 x 3 round suits a short wait. Use pebbles, mini marshmallows or crayon dots as markers. Run several rounds with the New version button and give small prizes like stickers or a popsicle.

The list includes the summer months JUNE, JULY and AUGUST, a handy place to practice capital letters and month order. Short words like SUN, ICE and HAT suit emerging readers, while compound words such as WATERMELON, SUNSHINE and ICECREAM show how two small words join. FLIPFLOP and SWIMSUIT are common spelling slips. Kids returning from a break also get a gentle reading warm-up that keeps skills fresh over the holidays.

For preschool through first grade, use a 3 x 3 card with one card per page and read each word aloud while pointing. For camp groups of mixed ages, 5 x 5 with the free center works well. Two cards per page saves paper when you print for a large crowd. Paste in your own words, such as camp activity names, to personalize it.

Is summer bingo good for the last week of school?
Yes. It is low prep and calm, and players can work in pairs. Print with the 5 versions switch so neighbors have different cards, then give small prizes for each round.
Can summer bingo help prevent summer reading slide?
It can give daily practice in a small dose. Play a short 3 x 3 round with a child at home once or twice a week, calling words slowly and letting them spell the winners aloud.
Which summer words are easiest for beginners?
SUN, ICE, HAT, SAND, POOL and BOAT are short and phonetic. Save SPRINKLER, WATERMELON and VACATION for readers who can handle longer words, or leave them off with your own list.
