Missing Vowel Worksheets
Sixteen CVC words with the vowel left out in a box: b _ g, c _ t, s _ n. The generator never puts two words with the same consonant frame on one page, so c _ t is cat on this page and cannot also be cot or cut; the student sounds out the consonants and picks the vowel that makes a word from the whole set, then writes the word on the line. All five short vowels are mixed.

How can the answer be unique without a picture?
By choosing the sixteen words so no consonant frame appears twice and, across the whole bank, every frame has exactly one real-word vowel on the page. That constraint is checked when the page is built.
Is there an answer key?
Yes, the PDF ends with the same page filled in green. For word family pages that means every word written out; for the sort and matching pages it shows where each word goes.
Can this be done on a tablet?
Practice online puts a pen tool over the page, so the words can be written with a finger or stylus and wiped for another go.

What are CVC words?
Consonant, vowel, consonant: cat, pen, dig, hot, sun. They are the first words children decode because every letter says its most common sound, and the short vowel in the middle is the sound being taught.
Why are there no pictures?
Pictures make CVC pages guessable (a child names the picture and never reads the letters). These pages work from the letters only, and the missing vowel page is built so that only one vowel makes a real word in its bank.
