Circus Word Search

Use it as part of a circus theme week, before a class trip to a show, or at a birthday party with a big-top theme. Easy has words and takes only a few minutes. Medium and Hard run longer. Ask children to pick one word and act it out, like a juggler or a lion, then write a sentence. To tie in a book you are reading, use My own words and type up to 30 terms from the story.

Children meet two kinds of words here. Short everyday ones like BIG, HAT and DOG are quick wins. Performance vocabulary such as ACROBAT, UNICYCLE and SPECTACLE is new for many kids, and some spellings are tricky, like the C-L-E at the end of UNICYCLE. In the 20x20 Hard grid, words like BALANCING and RINGMASTER stretch the eye across a long row. It is a gentle way to build a theme vocabulary before a writing task about the circus.

With ages 4 to 6, use Easy and read the clue words aloud, one act at a time. Grades 2 and 3 are ready for Medium, where words also slant diagonally. Hard suits ages 9 and up and easily outlasts the usual ten minutes. When one word hides, show just that line from the answer key. For a class circus party, print the 5 versions.

Is there anything scary in the word list?

No. The list sticks to tents, animals, performers and music, with words like LAUGH, SMILE and JOY. Nothing depends on clowns being frightening, and nothing is dark.

What can a child do after finishing?
