Printing help

Plan about ten to fifteen minutes for twelve problems. Walk through a first example aloud: seven times six is forty-two, write the 2, carry the 4, and continue left. Ask the child to place each carry small and clearly above the next digit. Use the answer key after finishing, comparing final products only. Two or three wrong lines are a good sign that the habit is close. Let the child redo just those lines the next day rather than the whole sheet. A fresh sheet is one click on New version.

One more digit than the two-digit sheet means one more carry to hold. The child must keep the 7s, 8s and 9s facts accurate and add the carry only after multiplying each place. A zero in the middle of the number is where children stumble, because the carry still has to land in the tens. This sheet leads straight into multiplying by two-digit numbers, where the same carrying happens twice. The multiplier on every problem is 2 to 9.

If carrying is brand new, run twelve problems with Stacked and say each step aloud. Once the child is accurate, thirty is a decent fluency block. Try In a row for estimating: 386 × 7 is just under four hundred sevens, so expect a bit less than three thousand. Missing number mode adds a reasoning layer for confident students and for those who like puzzles.

What multipliers does this sheet use?
Single digits from 2 to 9. Multiplying by 0 or 1 teaches nothing about carrying, so those are left out. Only the three-digit number is different from line to line.
Does the answer key show the carried digits?
No. It shows the final product under each problem. Carried digits belong to the student's own method, so check the final answer first and look at the carries only on lines that came out wrong.
My child loses track of carries. What helps?
Have them write each carry in a different place, above the next digit, and cross it out once used. Slow, steady work on twelve problems beats rushing through thirty. A quick times table warm-up also helps.
