About this page

Printing help

One page takes most fourth graders about ten minutes. Use it as a warm-up before a math lesson, as a take-home sheet, or as a quick assessment of fact recall. A useful routine is to have the child write the matching multiplication fact in the margin for any problem that stalls. When finished, swap papers or use the answer key, and sort mistakes into two piles: fact errors and careless slips. Different versions let a class do the same task without copying.

Numbers up to 20 keep the division facts in familiar territory while the child learns to move fluidly between sharing, grouping and fact families. It is the bridge between third grade division facts and dividing larger numbers later. Children often slip when the divisor is large, because the multiplication table they need is the one they know least. Seeing how groups of five, ten or two fit into a number builds the sense of size.

Pick 12 problems when a child needs a gentler start and 30 to build stamina later. In a row presents the problems as sentences, while Stacked is closer to the division bracket form. Missing number mode asks for a hidden dividend or divisor, a nice challenge once answers come easily. If many problems feel hard, return to the Grade 3 division page and then step back up.

What is the difference between this page and Grade 3 division?
The Grade 3 sheet uses numbers up to 10 and shorter pages. This Grade 4 sheet reaches 20 and gives 20 problems by default, so it asks for faster recall and more stamina.
How can I check my child's division quickly?
Multiply the answer by the divisor and see whether you get the starting number. Teaching that check turns mistakes into self-corrections. The answer key is there too if you simply want to mark.
Why does my child divide well but slowly?
Slow division usually means slow multiplication facts underneath. Spend a few days on the weakest tables, then return. Speed tends to follow once the facts are automatic rather than reconstructed.
