Letter E Coloring Page
Letter E Coloring Page prints a poster-sized capital E: one tall spine and three arms of equal length, with bubbles scattered behind. Preschool teachers hang it for alphabet weeks, and parents use it with a child learning to spot letters in names and signs.
About this page
Printing helpCount the arms with the child before coloring: one, two, three. Then let them color each arm a different color. A preschooler will usually finish in about ten minutes. Afterward, look for the letter E in a book title or on a sign. Press New version for a second sheet, or print the 5 versions option for a table of children, each with different bubbles.
Capital E is all straight lines and right angles, which makes it a gentle letter for early hand control, but the three arms need to be told apart from F, which has two. Children often color only two arms or run the crayon off the end. Counting the arms is the simplest correction. E also has a short and a long sound, as in egg and eagle. F is next.
Crayons suit younger children, and markers work for older ones who can stay inside the arms. Try coloring each arm a different color to count them, or alternate two colors down the spine. For a kindergartener, ask them to circle the E among a row of other letters you write beside it.
- How do I help a child tell E from F?
- Count the arms together. E has three, F has two. Coloring the bottom arm in a bright color, then covering it with a finger, shows what changes.
- What is the sound of E?
- The short sound is /e/ as in egg, elf and elbow. The long sound is the letter name, as in eagle. Most programs start with the short sound.
- Can younger toddlers color this page?
- Yes, with fat crayons and help. The straight arms are easy to scribble across, and the large size means precision is not required. Let them fill the letter however they like and talk about the name.
