Heart Dot to Dot
Heart dot to dot has 24 numbered dots to connect, starting at the green dot and ending back where you began. It works for parents of preschoolers and kindergartners, and for teachers making Valentine's Day or Mother's Day cards. The finished heart is ready to color.
About this page
Printing helpGive a child a pencil or fine marker and a few minutes. Most kids connect all 24 dots in five to ten minutes, then color the heart in any way they like. The answer key shows the connected heart for checking, and 5 versions lets a class each get a slightly different page. Fold the colored heart into a card, or tape several to a window. Practice online lets a child connect the dots on a tablet.
Connecting dots in order builds number sequence and a steady pencil line. With 24 dots the page asks for counting to 24, a stretch for many kindergartners. Children often skip a number or jump from thirteen to thirty-one. The curved top of the heart is a good place to practice slowing down, since the dots sit close together on the curve. Hearts also pair nicely with a card-writing activity afterward.
Choose Fewer for a three or four year old, since a chunkier heart has fewer numbers. Normal fits kindergarten, and More gives a smoother heart with more counting for a confident child. Leave Count by on 1s for early counters, or switch to 5s or 10s for a first grader practicing skip counting.
- What is the dot count on the heart page?
- At the normal setting the heart has 24 dots. Fewer gives a blockier heart with fewer numbers, and More gives a rounder one with more dots to connect. Pick whichever matches how high your child counts, and go up a notch next time.
- Where does my child start on the heart?
- The first dot is green and has a short line pointing the way. Follow the numbers in order, and the last number joins back to the green start to close the heart.
- Can I use the heart sheet for skip counting?
- Yes. Set Count by to 2s, 5s or 10s and the dots are numbered that way instead of 1, 2, 3. The shape stays the same, so you can reuse it for a harder round.
